My Longest Road Trip

I have been on many road trips for hockey throughout my life, including traveling eight hours by bus to the North Country to play St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University.   After recently looking over my flight information for Austria, those bus rides don't seem so bad now.  I think this will be my longest road trip by far.  I will leave Norfolk International Airport in Norfolk, Va. on August 25 at 1:00 p.m. and arrive at JFK Airport in New York, N.Y.  From there, I will fly to Düsseldorf International Airport in Düsseldorf, Germany.  I am scheduled to arrive at Vienna International Airport in Vienna, Austria on August 26 at 10:10 a.m.  The total airtime is 10 hours and five minutes.  I can't wait!

Introduction

I graduated from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. on May 22 as a print journalism major with a minor in fine arts-studio.  As a freshman from Chesapeake, Va., I walked onto Quinnipiac's Division I women's ice hockey team in 2007 and eventually earned a playing spot in the lineup.  I received an athletic scholarship my junior and senior years at Quinnipiac in addition to serving as the team's assistant captain my senior year.

I will be traveling to Mürzzuschlag, a town in northeastern Styria, Austria, on August 25 as part of fulfilling a dream in playing professional women's ice hockey.  As I am no longer a Bobcat for Quinnipiac's women's ice hockey team, I will soon gain a spot on the Neuberg Highlander's women's ice hockey team.

I will not only play ice hockey in Austria but I will work as an intern for an industrial company, voestalpine Stahl.  I plan to use this blog to share my experiences as I engage in a different culture during my eight months in Austria.  I plan to return April 3, 2012.
